What is a duck fight?

Have you ever seen a duck fight? No? Yes? Maybe? I have. Well, I thought I had but I hadn’t. But then I did, at least I was pretty sure I did. Then, I realized, no, no I hadn’t. I knew for sure that I wasn’t certain that I had though after the next time I thought I did.

Confused yet? Me too! And I know what I’m trying to say.

I went out and got a dozen ducklings shortly after I started my little farm. I used to sit out there and watch them go back and forth, to and fro, here and there, until one day, I saw them fighting in a decent sized puddle. I went over to break it up and out of no where two ducks popped up from beneath the two that I thought were fighting. Turns out, I had just interrupted a duck orgy.

Time and time again I thought the ducks were fighting only to realize they were just communicating or dancing (I think?) or mating or whatever else those weirdos did. I often wondered if some of them were as confused as I was because quite frankly, ducks always look a little confused. And at times, they did fight, I think.

We all face these situations in life, these duck fights. Situations where we don’t exactly know whats going on or who’s on our side or where we should go. We’re not sure how to feel, what to do, how to do it and if we’re doing it with the right people. We’re not sure how to get out or if we should.

Suicide, depression, anxiety. Bankruptcy, foreclosure, closing a business down. Failed friendships, failed relationships. No heat, no electricity, no home. Embarrassment, shame, regret. These are a few of the duck fights I’ve been in, fights I’ve lost but survived and came out a little more optimistic and a little bit happier.

How do we tell if we are in a duck fight or not? And what do we do about it?
